Can a Same-Day Crown be Used After a Root Canal?

Maintaining good oral hygiene is important all the time. Scheduling regular exams and cleanings is a good idea to prevent plaque and tartar buildup. Sometimes things happen and different procedures may need to get looked into. If it's cosmetic or replacing a missing tooth a same day crown might just be for you.

Can a Same-Day Crown be Used?

A traditional crown is going to take you a couple office visits. You will receive a temporary crown while the mold for your permanent crown is sent to a lab. Some people simply cannot or do not want to wait for that time, so what option do you have?

A same day crown is offered in many offices and allows you to go back to normal life almost immediately. Your dentist has a small camera that can send the image it needs to a computer. The new software can make you a crown in about 10 to 15 minutes.

Once the crown is ready it will be cemented in place. Your dentist will most likely tell you not to eat or drink anything for about 30 minutes to let it set up, and then soft foods for the next 24 hours. The last thing you want is for it to fall out or damage your real tooth underneath it.

Once you have your new crown you will take care if it just like your real teeth. Brushing two times a day, flossing, and a mouthwash is recommended. Your crown is sealed, but you want to keep as much bacteria away as possible, to prevent decay.

Scheduling regular exams and cleanings is suggested to keep an eye on things. To find out more about a same day crown and if it's right for you, contact your dentist office and schedule an appointment.
